While James’ article is directed to IT people, more and more firms are asking that their assistants have Web skills, and, specifically, know HTML. This is really important if you want a well-paying job these days. It is worth your while to learn everything you can about the Internet and Web site maintenance (at least maintenance!). Repeatedly, I hear people say they want an office job or a marketing position, but they don’t particularly want to learn about the Internet. eMarketing/Web Marketing isn’t the way of the future — it’s here now!

A recent scan of 1,000 jobs listed on craigslist in the San Francisco Bay Area indicated:
199 companies have social media as a requirement;
405 companies refer to Web 2.0 and a component of the job;
105 include the word “blog;”
44 include “blogging.”
