Three months after graduating from Monroe and unable to find work, Trina Thompson (who had a 2.7 GPA), one of the 9.4% of unemployed Americans, is suing Monroe College’s Office of Career Advancement. Thompson seeks reimbursement of the $70,000 she paid for her bachelor’s education plus an extra $2,000 compensation for undue “stress.”
A quote from the lawsuit filed on July 24 reads, “I am asking for a $70,000 reinbursement and $2,000 for the stress I have been going through looking for a full time job on my own.”
The past three months that Thompson has spent looking for a job is not only her first unsuccessful search, it is also the 27-year-old’s first quest for a career altogether. While unemployed during the course of a semester off in 2007, Thompson did not look for a job. Carol Thompson, Trina’s mother, has supported her daughter for the past four years with a reported $100 monthly stipend.
Where does it say you are guaranteed a job if you attend college? And has anyone asked her where the $70,000 came from? She didn’t work and her mother gave her $100/month.
